Hi! We’re Dan and Karla from New Jersey. We spend a lot of time outside, living near the woods and lakes. We take our dogs on a trail walk daily, enjoy boating, golfing, skiing, and traveling as a family. We enjoy hosting family and friends for dinner and games, while the kids run around and play.

Quality time with family is important to us, and we’re excited to complete our family though adoption. We’d love to get to know you, learn what you enjoy, and what you envision for your child. We’re open to a relationship at a level you feel comfortable.

About Us

We met in college 12 years ago. Dan played golf and Karla softball. We bonded over sports, growing up on lakes, and that we both come from families of entrepreneurs. In 2015 we got engaged, and later married on the lake.

Adoption was placed on Karla's heart from the time she was 11 years old. From the beginning of our relationship, we knew adoption would be a part of our family's story.

Our date nights consist of surfing behind the boat, golfing, taking our 2 dogs on long hikes, playing tennis, or skiing. Then we enjoy a nice meal together.

We love to travel and some of our favorite vacations include: African safari, Greek island cruise, and Venice, Italy. Although we love exploring new places, we also find peace in the simplicity of being home and playing in the backyard with our 3 daughters.

About Karla

Dan says: From the moment I met Karla I knew she was the one. She has a caring heart and is extremely compassionate. She cares for everyone she comes in contact with and truly wants to get to know them.

Karla is fully invested in our children’s lives. She sacrificed her career in law enforcement to be present at home. She teaches them Christian values: to be open minded, strong, and passionate about their dreams. She juggles her time homeschooling, coaching their teams, taking trips to local farms and zoos, crafting, and conducting science experiments, while ensuring we maintain a healthy lifestyle through food and natural remedies.

God placed Karla on this earth to serve Him. She is living for His purpose and exemplifies what it means to be a strong Christian mother and leader.

Karla: I enjoy being physically active. I play in a women's softball league in the summer and love that my grandma and daughters cheer us on at the games. I also enjoy working in our yard, caring for our flower garden and growing seasonal herbs and vegetables. I also love decorating the house for the holidays and making each season feel special.

I'm excited for all the baby snuggles, and having another child to share in our daily fun!

About Dan

Karla says: The first time Dan and I hung out, he invited me (and my twin brother) to his parents' lake house. I knew he was special when he spoke about his siblings, parents, cousins, aunts and uncles that he grew up with on the lake. I greatly appreciate the relationship he has with his whole family and the emphasis he places on spending time with family. I love watching Dan play “turtle back” with the girls and play on the trampoline, but my favorite is listening to him tell the girls bedtime stories about silly animals, that always have a good moral and happy ending.

Dan is gentle, kind, and a fearless Christian leader. He took the leap of faith to start his own business, has an amazing work ethic, and is dedicated to providing for our family, and changing the lives of those we work with. I love that Dan has kept Christ at the center of the agency. I’m thankful he now works less hours so he can be present with our family for even the small moments.

Dan: I'm an avid golfer and skier. I compete in an annual golf tournament and have placed top 4 which allows me to compete nationally. I also have a group of guys that I go heli-skiing with. We take a helicopter to the top of the mountain and free ski down.

I'm excited to share my love of golf, skiing, and boating with another child. I love teaching our children and watching them partake in my favorite activities.

Our Family

Our daughters--Kora (5), Deklynn (4), and Kadan (almost 2) love fancy dresses, digging for worms, and playing in nature. Kora is gentle and caring, Deklynn is a fierce lover, and Kadan is happy-go-lucky. Despite being different, they’re the best of friends. They can't wait to add another sibling to their trio!

Extended family--We’ve both always been super close to our families, and they’re the reason we live in NJ. We live a few miles from our parents, Dan’s older sister, and Karla’s twin brother. We’re thankful our families get along so well; both sides of our families spend Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter together (even aunts and uncles, cousins, and grandparents). Our families have even gone on vacations together, which we love because our children get to spend quality time with all their grandparents in one place.

Our Home in New Jersey

Our 4-bedroom home has a huge grassy backyard and big kitchen, where we enjoy family dinner every night. Our home has everything we need, including a homeschool room and a space for Dan’s office.

We love the openness of our kitchen and living room and how it flows to our back deck, perfect for hosting holidays and casual get togethers inside and outside. Our children’s favorite part of the openness is the ability to run and ride their scooters around the house.

We also love that we can see the lake from almost every window in our house, and we enjoy amazing sunsets year-round. We love living on a quiet dead end street because it’s safe for the kids to ride their scooters and bikes.

Our house is surrounded by protected woodlands, so we enjoy taking family trail walks. We enjoy jumping on the trampoline and playing on the swing set. We also love gathering around the bonfire to melt chocolate for strawberries and bananas.

Our Promise

We will happily maintain an open relationship with you, to the extent you feel comfortable. We promise to always honor your baby’s adoption story. We will tell your child that he or she has been chosen, and keep Jesus at the forefront of our lives. We promise to love your baby and create positive family memories. We’re excited to share our active and adventurous spirits, but also encourage our next child to pursue his or her own interests. We will support your child academically into higher education or trade school, whichever he or she decides. We promise to provide a safe, warm, joyful, and financially secure life for your child.

More About Our Family

Our Dogs

O’Malley is a beagle hound rescue. He's very shy, submissive, and sensitive. Once he gains your trust, he shows his fun-loving personality. He is great with our daughters.

Buster is a golden retriever. He's a retired narcotics K-9 whose favorite days at work were "bring your kids to work day." Buster loves attention, children, and belly rubs. He's a happy-go-lucky boy who happily accepts food whenever the girls offer.

Family Time Through the Seasons

Every season, we spend a lot of time with family and friends - creating lots of fun memories.

In the summer we spend every Saturday with Dan’s family at the lake. We like to swim, tube and wake surf behind the boat, hike, and hang with cousins who are also at the lake. After church on Sundays, we go to Karla’s parents' house for Sunday funday. Karla’s parents host about 40 people every Sunday; we listen to music, swim, and eat all day.

In the winter (when we’re not in Florida), we typically go to the local ski hill on Saturday or Sunday. Most times we meet up with some friends and our parents and siblings, do some runs, and then enjoy some hot chocolate, fruit, and veggies by the fire.

In the spring and fall we enjoy going on family bike rides and hikes, and local parks and zoos. We also love hosting family and friends for dinner. If it’s nice out, we enjoy sitting on the back deck or around the campfire while the kids play on the trampoline and swing set.

Traditions

Every fall, Karla takes the girls pumpkin picking at a local farm with her parents. A couple days later, Karla’s grandma comes over and we cut down the pumpkins we picked and make fresh pumpkin pies (Karla’s grandma’s recipe is a crowd favorite).

On Thanksgiving morning, we go skeet shooting with about 20-40 other families and the Pastor from our church. Then we go to Dan’s parents' and both sides of our families have a Thanksgiving feast together.

Our families spend Christmas day together at Karla’s parents' house. After Christmas we go to south Florida and spend a week with Dan’s parents. We enjoy boating and playing in the awesome pools at the country club. We then go up to Orlando and spend the rest of the winter there. Orlando has become our home away from home. The girls are involved in activities there and we’ve made some of our best friends who also spend their winters there.

We typically host Easter at our house, and Karla’s brother always surprises the kids as the Easter bunny. We love having a big easter egg hunt and doing all the spring crafts together.

Names are Important

Each of our children’s names have significant meaning and have our initials (DAB or KLB).
- Kora Lynn B - named after Dan’s great uncle Kore (pronounced Kora) who immigrated to NYC from Norway. Karla’s middle name is also Lynn and comes from her aunt’s middle name.
- Deklynn Alice B - Dan came up with the name Deklynn when he thought it was the name from the movie "Just Go with It" (which was Devalin). Karla loved the name, but since it’s typically a boy's name we made it feminine by using lynn at the end. Deklynn’s middle name comes from Karla’s grandmother, Alice.
- Kadan Louise B - named after Ka for Karla and dan for Dan. Her middle name comes from Dan’s great grandfather from Italy.

We'd love to come up with a fun way to honor our future baby with a unique and meaningful name!
