Hello from California! We are Catherine and Daniel, and we want to thank you for taking the time to learn more about us! Daniel is a high school teacher, and Catherine is a homemaker and future stay-at-home mom. Our lives have been blessed by many adopted family members, and we are thrilled to be pursuing adoption ourselves. We are excited to meet you and begin the process of open adoption. We pray for you and your baby every day!
About Us
We have been married for fifteen years. We began the process of adoption after experiencing several miscarriages. We have always dreamed of having children, and began to think seriously about adoption after these experiences. We both have a number of adopted family members, and so adoption felt like a natural choice for us!
We enjoy traveling! We go to Hawaii frequently, and have visited various countries in Europe (Portugal, Ireland, Scotland, Italy.) We look forward to sharing these adventures with our child and helping our child experience many cultures. We also like to go to closer destinations; both the beach and the mountains are nearby, and Daniel’s family owns a houseboat which we visit every summer.
We also like cooking together, making jam, listening to music, reading, watching football, going on neighborhood walks, attending community events, and spending time with family. We can’t wait to bring our child along on all of these experiences!
About Catherine
Daniel says: Catherine is sweet, funny, beautiful, and loving. She is the bright shining star wherever she is! She makes everyone laugh and feel comfortable, she can converse naturally in all kinds of settings, and she is always interested in learning and sharing what she knows. One thing that she excels at is making a cozy home. She loves baking, reading, going on walks, and spending time with friends. She is at her best around babies and children; our nieces and nephews, godchildren, and friends’ children love to be around her. She is able to connect with them easily, and they love her as much as she loves them. It is amazing to watch. I know that she will be a wonderful mother, and I can’t wait to see her reading stories and singing songs to our child.
About Daniel
Catherine says: Daniel is the love of my life. I knew at our first meeting that there was something special about him and that he was a keeper. He has proven that to me over and over and takes such good care of me. He is funny and smart, qualities that have led to many adventures over the years. He loves astronomy, reading, gardening, and learning about other languages and cultures. He is a wonderful provider for us and works hard. I am always proud that he is my husband. He is romantic and thoughtful in both small, sweet gestures and fun surprises. When I see him with our nieces and nephews, my heart melts. I can't wait to watch him read with our child and help our child learn about the amazing world around us.
Our Family
Our extended families are very important to us. Catherine’s family lives locally, and we see them regularly. Daniel’s family is about three hours away, but we make time to see them and they often come to visit us. Both of us have several adopted cousins, and our families are entirely supportive of our plan to adopt. Everyone in both of our families knows how wonderful adoption is!
We often travel with our families. We go to Hawaii with Daniel’s family, spend some of the summer at his parents’ houseboat, and regularly visit his aunt’s ranch in Oregon. We often go to the beach, the local national parks, and other destinations like Arizona, Utah, and Nevada with Catherine’s family. Catherine’s older brother has three children, and so does Daniel’s sister. Our nieces and nephews are a great joy in our lives, and we love to spend time with them. We know how much they are looking forward to their new cousin!
Our Home in Central California
We are so excited to share our home with our child! We live in a three-bedroom house in a beautiful little town in a rural valley of California. Our house is only a short walk away from the local high school where Daniel teaches; it is wonderful for him to be able to walk to work. The house is spacious and comfortable, with nice yards in the front and back. We live across from a park with a playground, and another larger park is only a short walk away. We have two cats, Flora and Aspen. Their sweet and playful personalities bring so much joy to our home.
We love our town! There are frequent events in the parks and downtown, such as summer concerts, farmers’ markets, Christmas parades, Fourth of July fireworks, spring festivals, and many others. The town is highly walkable, and we enjoy strolling downtown to the restaurants, the library, the coffee shop, the bakery, our church, the ice cream shop, and the various stores. The town is surrounded by farmland, and we enjoy visiting the many fruit stands and always having access to fresh, healthy food.
Our Promise

We promise to maintain an open adoption, and we can’t wait to meet you and begin this relationship. Your baby will always know that our families were brought together by the loving choice of adoption. We feel honored that you are considering us. Know that we pray every day for you and your baby and that our hearts are full of love and anticipation as we think of the life that we will have.
We promise to teach our child to be kind, to care for others, to work confidently towards her goals, and to always feel secure in our love. With Daniel, our child will learn about the stars and planets, explore new languages and cultures, learn about the ancient world, and learn how to drive a boat, row a kayak, and swim. With Catherine our child will learn to make up songs, cook and bake delicious things, plan trips far and near, and be lovingly cared for each day as she dedicates her life to raising our child. With both of us, our child will read countless books, travel to a wide variety of places around the state, country, and world, and spend time with aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and great-grandparents. We promise that our child will have the best life that we can offer.

More About Our Family
Family Traditions
-We go to Daniel's family's houseboat on a nearby lake every summer. We swim, play games, go on boat and jet ski rides, and enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings. Daniel has been going there since he was a baby, and it is one of his favorite places in the world.
-Catherine's family has a big reunion every year the week before Easter. It has been going on for over seventy years! It's a great opportunity to reconnect with the whole family.
-Every year we have a Fourth of July party. We are able to see our town's fireworks from our front yard, so we gather with friends and family to celebrate our country and enjoy the fireworks.
-We live in an agricultural area that produces a wide variety of delicious fruit. Every year we take the opportunity both to enjoy fresh fruit and to make homemade jam. We especially like to make strawberry, apricot, blueberry, and orange marmalade.
-Our town has a summer concert series in the park, with food trucks and a farmers' market. We go to several of the concerts with friends during the summer.
Adoption in Our Families
Daniel has three cousins who were adopted, and Catherine has five. Most of them are younger than we are, and we both fondly remember when they came into our families. Because of the history of adoption in our families, our decision to adopt has been met with pure joy and excitement. Everyone in both of our families sees adoption as a great blessing and a beautiful way to build a family. We love having the support of our extended families who are eager to welcome our child.
Our Pets
In 2019, Daniel was taking out the trash and found a tiny kitten hiding behind an unused flowerpot by the trash cans. He brought her inside and we named her Flora. She is our first pet as a couple, and we found that we love having a cat. In 2022, we found another kitten, this time in the front yard. We named her Aspen because she has a mark on her paw shaped like an aspen leaf. They are wonderful, affectionate pets. Flora likes to sit right next to us on the couch and Aspen jumps on our laps whenever we get home and sit down. They both love to chase ribbons and springs, and they are great with our nieces and nephews. Their playful, sweet antics bring us great joy every day!
Fun Facts
-Daniel is a member of a local astronomy club and helps run a local observatory.
-Catherine's baking specialty is pies--she especially loves to make apricot or apple pies.
-Daniel loves languages and, although he cannot claim to be fluent, has studied some French, Latin, Greek, Irish, Welsh, Ukrainian, Swedish, and Hawaiian.
-Catherine loves elephants and we have sponsored an elephant at a preserve in Africa. She would love to visit her elephant some day!
-We have a large collection of vinyl records, including classical, jazz, traditional Irish, classic rock, musical scores, Christmas music and several other genres. We enjoy listening to them and collecting new ones when we get the chance.
-We love road trips--listening to music, eating snacks, and exploring new places. Spending time together is always fun!
