Hey from South Carolina! We are Juston and Vernita. We have one little girl named Justice and we love to spend lots of time outside together–whether we are at the pool, beach, water park, or our backyard, our family makes the most of each moment.  When we get the opportunity, we like to explore new places and visit our extended family members.

We are all excited to grow our family through adoption. Adoption has been something on our hearts for a long time and we look forward to getting to know you and hearing your heart for your baby.

About Us

We met in college in the gospel choir. Juston was a musician and Vernita joined the alto section. We quickly became friends and learned to work together as the student leaders of the choir. We’ve known each other for half of our lives at this point, but have been married for 11 years. Above all, we are friends. We trust each other completely. We have a commitment to open and honest communication, no matter what. We have fun together and we laugh at ourselves a lot. We enjoy hanging out together– going to new restaurants, watching funny shows, and doing house projects.

Adoption has always been something that Vernita saw as a part of her life’s story, after having been witness to adoption in her own extended family. Following the birth of our daughter, and some complications with that pregnancy, Juston also began to consider adopting for the first time. Now we both see it clearly as the next step to grow our family.

When our baby arrives, we look forward to introducing him/her to all of our family, and friends who have become family. We are excited to take them to see our college, the children’s museum, the beach, the aquarium and so much more.

About Vernita

(In Juston’s words)

Vernita is amazing. She has always had a warm spirit and gentle, caring nature. She is smart, successful, gorgeous, and easy going. She is a Chief of Staff at her job, which basically means she is good at a little bit of everything, and she has been doing that kind of work for the last 5 years. She has a big heart and cherishes her family and close friend relationships. When our baby comes, I know Vernita will nurture them and share her love of cooking, beach going, and kayaking (a few of her favorite hobbies).

About Juston

(In Vernita’s words)

Juston is one of the most interesting and chill people I’ve ever met. He is in the construction field for a living, but his top priority is his family. He is a talented musician, playing both the saxophone as well as the piano. He loves to cookout and can often be found watching YouTube to learn how to make a new smoked recipe. One of the things I love most about him is his ability to teach a concept when he knows how to do something. I would describe him as wise, insightful, and generous. When our baby comes, I can see Juston having special father-child days (like he does with our daughter), tickling them and teaching them about music.

Our Daughter & Extended Family

We have a daughter named Justice. She is very curious, enthusiastic, creative and bright. She is also bilingual, having been at a Spanish-speaking school for the last few years. She is 5 years old, and she is ecstatic for a sibling. Her favorite hobbies are playing dolls, playing dress-up, and making toys out of our recyclables. She also really loves Family Charades and Trouble. When her baby brother or sister comes, she says she is going to teach them “Mathematics and Spanish!”.

One of our most fun traditions that we all look forward to sharing with our baby is our family dance parties! Whenever one of us just feels like dancing, we love to blast music in the living room or car and just go for it! It’s so much fun to create these memories with Justice and we look forward to making more of them with our baby!

A day with Justice usually entails doing her morning devotional, making waffles together, imaginative play, swimming, and evening prayers for our entire family. Most of our family lives out of state, so Justice makes sure to pray for them every day since we mostly see them on FaceTime. Thankfully, however, we have many friends and church members who have become our family and “village” here. These are the folks we see most often, and they are some of our greatest supporters.

Our Home in South Carolina

We live in the Lowcountry of South Carolina where we get to appreciate the benefits of city life, while also enjoying the beauty of nature. Every morning, we go over the bridge as the sun rises over the water and just thank God for the beauty of this area we get to experience. Our home is a 4-bedroom ranch with a huge backyard. We are always updating and doing special projects and look forward to building a treehouse out back for the kids. One of our favorite things about our neighborhood is how close it is to everything. We live close to a small zoo and the beach, and are within walking distance of 3 parks. Living in a well-established neighborhood, we get to enjoy the benefits of it being really quiet and safe with good schools and great neighbors.

Our Promise

We promise to show our child Jesus in our actions.

We promise to introduce our child to Jesus as the foundation of their life.

We promise to be honest with our child about who they are and where they come from.

We promise we will love them, work with them to identify their unique gifts, and nurture their gifts.

We promise they will be safe and accepted in our home and among our family and friends.

We promise to listen to them, make space for their ups and downs, and be there through them all.

Our hearts are open. Life after adoption can look many different ways but we are open to meeting you, and discovering whatever we all agree is best for our beloved child.

We’d love to talk or answer any of your questions. Please call or text Lifetime at 1.800.923.6784.

More About Our Family

Our Special Interests

We enjoy being involved in our local community. We give our talents and gifts at our church, volunteer with an after-school program, are a part of an African American museum board, and Juston participates in community worship nights as a musician.

Our Faith

We follow Jesus. We attend a local multiethnic church and are very involved with our community group, sometimes hosting it at our home.

Our Musical Interest

We have a wide range of musical interests. Juston plays mostly gospel, funk and jazz. We also listen to pop, rock, reggae, Latino, rap and a lot of kids bop!

More About Our Home

We love our house. It's an older house, built in the 50's but it has had a lot of updates that have kept it really nice throughout the years. It's very spacious and we are looking forward to continuing to raise our family here for many years to come.

In Closing

We have enjoyed being parents immensely and look forward to sharing more love with another little one. We view parenting as shepherding and look forward to helping bring out the unique gifts in another child and helping them reach their God-given potential.

Through this process, we've come to believe that "open adoption" is best described as "open-hearted," and our hearts are open to relationships, love, and ultimately what God would ask of us.
